Fabulous design apartment next to Hyde Park

That intangible something that makes heads turn and spines tingle – it comes all too rarely. But it’s here in Thurloe Square. With an exceptional collection of modern art and contemporary technology, it’s at the cutting edge of interior design. Yet this is a home that’s Georgian through and through- its original features and generous proportions frame furniture that’s as beautiful as it is bold.

Thurloe Square is just steps from Exhibition Road and Hyde Park, and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Words, however carefully chosen, do not do justice to this home, you simply have to experience it for yourself.

The district surrounding Thurloe Square was created for the Great Exhibition back in the mid 1800’s. Inspired, your hosts have adorned their five storey home with canvases at once invigorating and inspirational, creating an equally spectacular showcase. You’ve not one, but two sitting rooms. The ground floor is funky in pink and grey, while the first floor is an altogether grander affair, with lofty ceilings, doors out onto the balcony and a glittering chandelier. There’s also a whole wall of books, and a working fireplace. Back downstairs, sunlight glances from the white marble kitchen and across the table for ten, flooding the walled patio garden and glancing off its colourful pendant lighting. The enormous master bedroom is Thurloe Square’s crowning glory, with a super king-sized bed, elegant grey walls, and an antique writing desk. Light a fire in the original fireplace, then slip into the ensuite’s roll topped bath. Those with modern preferences will glory in the walk-in shower’s zonal lighting, and all will adore the mirrored dressing room.

Up on the third floor there’s another double bedroom, papered in Japanese blue and white, with a York stone ensuite. There’s a cosy sitting room on this floor, with an impressive doll’s house alongside a TV and DVD player, and a sofa bed to transform it into a handy extra double bedroom. The peaceful loft has something of the feel of an artist’s studio, with its fresh white floorboards and furniture, king-size bed, gleaming ensuite, and a hidden luminous green kitchenette to discover.
